Smá tíma til að anda

Já, ég veit, ég veit, ég er ekki búinn að skrifa nog á Íslensku. Ég var svo upptekinn að hlusta á "U.S.A." lagið að ég hef ekki verið að hugsa á Íslensku.

A hvað beinda prjónir? Hvaða hvaða? Það hlytur að hafa verið Gísli sem samdi svoleiðis spurningum! En, ég held að ég fékk ekki 10. Ég skrifaði ekki nog um nematoda og vissi ekki mikið um anna sýni. En, þetta gekk ágætlega. One down, four to go!

Vinna? Ferðast? Sumarskóli?

Biker dude

Summer is coming full force here in Vogar. We pulled Guðjón's big wheel out of the attic so he could show off at school. I know this picture looks terrible, but it's as good as I could make it with what I have. When I'm rich I'll buy a new camera.

AmerAca?!

Okay, so I have now found officially the worst extent of "Patriotism" anyone from my wonderful, though slightly deluded, home country has ever reached. Over there on the right is a link entitled "AmerAca". If you go to that site, bring a large industrial strength barf bag! This guy should be locked away! If that site is not enough, check out the video for the song at kvikmynd.is (the link righ below "AmerAca"). At least he could have pronounced it properly...but no. I can't say anything else due to the all-ages policy here at Wandering Thoughts. I just thought I might share this bag of two-day-old, been-sittin'-out-in-the-sun excrement with all of you...because I love you.

Fyrir þeim sem tala Íslensku sem lesa þessa síðu, ég vil taka það fram að ég er einginn veginn sammála þennan mann! Mér finnst þetta næst um því móðgandi lag og mig langar að senda honum til Íraks til að leita að jarðsprengjum! Þessi fávíti er gott...nei besta dæmi um fólkið sem ég var að flýja þegar ég ákvað að flytja burt frá bandaríkjunum. Það versta er að þetta er örygglega #1 á topp10 hjá forsetinu. Með svona hugsun á bak við ríkistrjórn eina leið sem landið getur farið er niður klósettið!

Google

I'm becoming more fond of Google, as my friend Randolph is. I must say that once one figures out how to use their programs and services efficiently, one finds that they have a lot ot offer. I now use Gmail much more. This is an on-line email service that will store up to 2 gigabytes of messages. The message writing interface is very similar to Yahoo's e-mail and, I imagine, Outlook Express. I haven't used much else than on-line e-mail servers since I started using e-mail, though and maybe the at home programs are better. Anyway, the Gmail thing works well. I like the way it archives stuff and that I have a search function that allows me to quickly find any e-mail I need quickly. I like the easy links to Google's help forums where you can find people asking questions and getting answers about ANYTHING. I like the email addresses are automatically stored in the contacts folder so I don't have to remember to add them or surf to a different page to do so.
I've just started using another Google program. It's called Picasa. It's a photo organizing/editing/sharing/sending software that you can download from picasa. It took me a coupld of hours to figure out how it works really, but now I'm starting to like it more and more. The first time you open it, it searches your computer for photo files and displays them all as thumbnails in an easy-to-use interface.
Anyway, I'm not a salseman or anything. Just passing on my opnion because this is a web site for my opinions.

Sea Critter of the Day

I have unfortunately lost the Latin name for this beautiful creature. On the web site from which I stole this photo it is said to be in the sea slug family...yes it is a free-swimming speciesPosted by Hello

Sega

Does anyone remember Sega? I don't know if it's still popular over in the States, but I'm not sure it ever got over here. Anyway, if you want to see another meaning for the term Sonic Hedgehog (like the game Sonic the Hedgehog-not sure which meaning came first), click here.

First Wobbly Steps

Heh heh, as you may have noticed a few things about this site have changed. The background color is different, there are links added, and the names of some of the sections are different. I've started experimenting with the html source code for this blog. One of the things I like about blogspot is that you can access all the code and change it at will. I'm going to be experimenting a bit for a while. So don't be surprised if the site looks different every time you drop by for a bit of light reading.
Here's a good starting place to learn a bit about html if you're interested. It really is as easy as they all say!

Word of the Day

The word for today is:

Bleb: n 1. A small blister or pustule
2. An air bubble
Probably a variation of blob.

Don't believe me? Look it up!

Children's Rights...

Parents’ Bill of Rights

My son came home from school one day,

with a smirk upon his face.
He decided he was smart enough,
to put me in my place.

"Guess what I learned in Civics Two,

that's taught by Mr. Wright?
It's all about the laws today,
The "Children's Bill of Rights."

It says I need not clean my room,

don't have to cut my hair.
No one can tell me what to think,
Or speak, or what to wear.

I have freedom from religion,

and regardless what you say,
I don't have to bow my head,
and I sure don't have to pray.

I can wear earrings if I want,

and pierce my tongue and nose.
I can read and watch just what I like,
tattoo me from head to toes.

And if you ever spank me,
I'll charge you with a crime.
I'll back up all my charges,
with the marks on my behind.

Don't you ever touch me,

My body's for my own use,
not for your hugs and kisses,
that's just more child abuse.

Don't preach about your morals,

like your Mama did to you.
That's nothing more than mind control,
And it's illegal too!

Mom, I have these children's rights,

so you can't influence me,
or I'll call Children's Services Division,
better known as C. S. D.

Of course my first instinct was

To toss him out the door.
But the chance to teach him a lesson
made me think a little more.

I mulled it over carefully,
I couldn't let this go.
A smile crept upon my face,
he's messing with a pro.

The next day I took him shopping

at the local Goodwill Store.
I told him, "Pick out all you want,
there's shirts and pants galore.

I've called and checked with C. S. D.

who said they didn't care if
I bought you K-Mart shoes
instead of Nike Airs.

And I've cancelled that appointment

to take your driver's test.
The C. S. D. is unconcerned
so I'll decide what's best.

I said "No time to stop and eat,

or pick up stuff to munch.
And tomorrow you can start to learn
to make your own sack lunch.

Just save the raging appetite,
and wait till dinner time.
We're having liver and onions,
a favorite dish of mine.

He asked "Can I please rent a movie,

to watch on my VCR?"
"Sorry, but I sold your TV,
to put new tires on my car.

I also rented out your room,
you'll take the couch instead.
All C. S. D. requires
is a roof over your head.

Your clothing won't be trendy now,

and I'll choose what we eat.
That allowance that you used to get,
will buy me something neat.

I'm selling off your jet ski,
dirt-bike and roller blades.
Check out the "Parents Bill of Rights,"
It's in effect today!

Hey hot shot, are you crying,

and why are you on your knees?
Are you asking God to help you out,
Instead of C. S. D..?

A perfect day

I went down to the beach here in Vogar this evening with Guðjón. We enjoyed a few good rolls down the hill near our home first. Then we walked over to the beach to throw rocks in the serene harbor water.
This was the perfect end to a perfect day. This morning I woke up early and finished a paper that I've been working on for a few days. Then, I went with Dagbjört for a little walk. We walked to Njarðvík. Yup, that's right...8 km! it was really fun. We walked along the top of the cliss for a while and watched the fulmars (fýlar) flying along gracfully at great speed. We sat on thick moss and ate a snack of cookies and an orange on top of the cliff and then continued on our way. All told, it took about 2 and a half hours to get from home to the other end of the 8 km hike. Then, we went into Keflavík and bought a fish and a pair of earrings for her friend as a birthday present and a top and earrings for Dagbjört. Then we took the bus home.
The weather has been phenomenal all day long. Clear skies (mostly) and warm enoug hfor me to be out all day in just a flannel shirt and a t-shirt. Today went just like a Hollywood family movie. I'm tired but completely happy.
Anyone want to come for a visit? We've got two extra rooms. Hint hint.

General appearance

It's been pointed out to me that one's first reaction to what I think is a soothing blue web page is, "Oh now, now I've gone into the darkness of Hell!" What are the opinions of my wonderful audience on this matter? Hvað finnst þér um útlit vef síðunar? Finnst þér of dökk eða tómleg?

Welcome, Welcome

Hi y'all.
Well, how do you like the new look? This site seems to be a bit better. I have homework to do right now, so I can't write too much at the moment, but I wanted to post a little something to welcome you to my new home.

Ég ætla að halda áfram að skrifa stundum á Íslensku. Ekki hafa áhyggjur af því!

Meira seinna...

Mr. Blobby

A fresh start

Okay, now is a good time to post a little bit.
As it turns out, Auður was right about the evolutionary analysis project; it's nopt the bad once you start getting a feel for it. I'm almost done.
Today the weather is beautiful. Sure, it's a bit windy, but the air is warm and the sun is shining and all that. Guðjón and I took the very long way home today. We walked along the beach almost all the way to the harbor then around the little pond and home. Well, actually Guðjón met his little buddy Almar and went home with him. On our walk I was trying to teach him the names of some of the shore birds we saw. He got tripped up on 'black back gull' and kept saying 'black black gull'. Then I taught him "She sells sea shells by the sea shore". He got that one okay, but just laughed at me when I said "Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers" and "How much wood would a wood chuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck would?" He'll get them some day. One of the fun things with kids is teaching them something and watching them try it on their own. I like the fact tht Guðjón has learned so many songs at school because now when he's playing by himself he sometimes starts singing. Of course, he's a little boy and he changes the songs to make them a little more naughty or sings them in funny voices ofr something. Having kids is sometimes a whole lot of fun!
Now classes are over (at least I'm not going to attend any more) and it's time to really nail myself down to a chair and study hard. I'm doing better this semester than I did last semester and my grades should reflect that. It feels good to not feel so lost as I did the first year. I'll tell you, as an old man returning to school after 10 years, it's pretty tough to get used to studying again.

That's enough for now.
