They Just Don't Get It

Here's a cartoon by Melody's friends, Rita Manachi and David C. Cherry. The point here is not to offend, but to point out the silliy position the peoples of the world are in regarding belief. Please don't kill me or the people mentioned here because of this drawing. We mean not to offend you or your faith. We respect your faith as one of peace and love. But we believe that radicals are twisting the message to their own purposes.

I remember there was this huge controversy about a Muslim Cartoon in Amsterdam (or France) with riots and all!

It seems that it's mostly dying down, but you can't let your guard down these days, people hold grudges.

You vile infidel! You have placed the holey profit Mohamed next to Christ as if they were equals. Now I must hack off your head with a scimitar and stick it on a pole as a warning to all who would commit such blasphemy.

Paul, the scariest thing about your comment is not what you are threatening to do but how your wrote it. I can't believe you are in Korea to teach English! I mean..."holey" and "profit". Okay, I publish spelling errors fairly often, but I'm not teaching anyone.

I was going for authenticity. People from the Middle East use English as a second language and as a result their death threats often contain a lot of spelling and grammar mistakes.

You're not buying it are you?

Okay, I’m afraid I put to much faith in my spell checker. Of course I can’t blame it all on Microsoft. I have to admit, my spelling sucks. Luckily, I’m teaching English conversation, not writing or grammar.

By the way, what’s “Snilli”?

Snilli = genious...She was obviously describing Our Hero, Eric. I'm not just a ball of iron-hard muscle. I'm also a font of knowledge and wisdom!

Oh, and I wanted to respond to Ramani. The controversy ranged all over Europe and parts fo the Muslim world. Embassies were burned, Danish goods were boycotted. People were sentenced to death. The people who drew the cartoons left their comics anonymous because they knew certain radicals would call for their assassination. The daughter of one of them was nearly abducted from school!
All from a cartoon.
But, if you are from India, I suppose you know a thing or two about strife between Muslims and other religions.
